New to Me: Majestic 3d-Printed Dice

Design & Designers, Games

Oh, wow, look at these 3d-printed dice:

They’re designed and made by Carolyn. She sells her dice under the name Majestic Trinkets through an Etsy shop and a Shapeways shop.

Carolyn uses CAD software to design the dice, so they’ll be properly balanced. Some of the designs can be printed from a variety of materials.

Very cool – what a wonderful way to channel your creativity. I love that she combines her training (mechanical engineer) and hobbies to make pretties for her fellow nerds. 🙂 Kudos!

Note: I wasn’t paid or perked to mention this; just passing along a good thing.

P.S. Visit MajesticTrinkets on Twitter for more photos of neat die projects!

Blast from the Past: Souvenir from the First Ropecon

Geek out!, My Spaces

Souvenir from the very first Ropecon, the largest Finnish role-playing con:

Signed Card Game Card as Bookmark

I wasn’t there myself, but friends kindly brought for me this card signed by the guest of honor, Steve Jackson. It’s a blank card for the card game Hacker that I made into a bookmark.

I have been to many of the early cons, but the later ones (after year 2000) only on and off. (Kinda difficult when you live an ocean away.) It’s really nice to know that it’s still going, though. I suppose it makes Ropecon into a nostalgic event for me. 🙂

Discoveries: Social Justice Class Pins

Colors, Geek out!, Inspiration, Thumbs Up

Artist Sara “Chip” Nixon (or Chiparoo) made a set of humorous buttons that combine role-playing games and discussions on social values in the SF/F and gamer communities. With pixelated art, they offer a counterpoint to attempts at using “social justice warrior” as an insult. This is what Sara says:

“They’re supposed to be a playful poke at the idea of a Social Justice Warrior. Because why be a Social Justice Warrior, when you can be a Social Justice Rogue? Or a Social Justice WIZARD?!”

Hilarious! And generous – Sara says she will donate the proceeds to charity. She and her pins will be at GeekGirlCon in Seattle this coming weekend, October 11-12th. Oh, if only I weren’t half a continent away!
