So beautiful, right?

As a booklover and librarian, I’m protective of books in good shape. But as a maker, if a book is beyond saving, I’m glad to see it continue its life as crafts materials. Brittany’s project definitely brings together the best of both worlds. Thank you for sharing!

Visit Pretty Handy Girl for the tutorial.

Colorful, Geometric Paper Jewellery

Arts & Crafts, Design & Designers, DIY

This amazing geometric paper jewellery pings the same receptors in my brain as the geometric quilting patterns I found earlier.

They come from a set (tiara, earrings and necklace) inspired by the royal wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry of Britain.

How inventive – kudos! Visit The House That Lars Built for the tutorial.

Free Printable Heart Gift Tags

Arts & Crafts, Bits in Spaaace!, DIY

This year, I’m attempting to organize everything holiday-related well in advance. (The operative word being “attempting.” Eek – it’s six weeks to Christmas!)

I made these minimalist gift tags inspired by my Nordic roots. And I made them specifically to share with you – read on for the link to download yours!

Red Xstitch Heart Gift Tag on Box

Heart is a popular Christmastime ornament in the Nordic countries, and not reserved just for Valentine’s Day. I made the cross stitch heart and interlaced tag outline with a photo editor.

Then I trimmed them into rectangles, but you can either cut along the outline or create whichever shape you prefer.

Discoveries: Quilled Oriental Rug

Arts & Crafts, Design & Designers, Fabrics & Materials, Stunt Double

Artist Lisa Nilsson was inspired by the patterns in an Islamic carpet and made this amazing piece:

Lisa Nilsson Jardin Big

Jardin, Japanese mulberry paper and gilt edged paper, 29″ x 22″, by Lisa Nilsson, 2016.

She also made an equally intricate but smaller piece inspired by an 8th century gospel cover. Both are part of a series Nilsson calls Tapis Series (after the Frech word). The carpet-inspired piece took about eight months and measures 29” x 22” / 74 x 56 cm. Below is a corner detail:

Wow. The detailing is seriously impressive. Visit Nilsson’s website for more pictures.

Discoveries: Quilling Artist Sena Runa

Arts & Crafts, Colors, Design & Designers

Artist Sena Runa from Istanbul makes quilled paper art so delicate and detailed there can be no doubt whatsoever they deserve to be called art. She combines sketching with paper quilling to create the finished pieces – all original designs.

I just love the combination of colors and shapes! Runa’s pieces are so fresh and bright. Some of her designs inside the letter shapes even remind me of illuminated medieval manuscripts in their intricacy. Below are just three of my favorites – there are so many more!

Arts & Crafts, Bits in Spaaace!, Colors

Time to start thinking about next year. (Already?!) Thanks to the generosity of fellow creatives, there are already free printable calendars available online. I prefer monthly write-in calendars, so I picked a geometric one by Botanical Paperworks (pdf; personal use only):
