Artist Lisa Nilsson was inspired by the patterns in an Islamic carpet and made this amazing piece:
She also made an equally intricate but smaller piece inspired by an 8th century gospel cover. Both are part of a series Nilsson calls Tapis Series (after the Frech word). The carpet-inspired piece took about eight months and measures 29” x 22” / 74 x 56 cm. Below is a corner detail:
