Author Patrick Rothfuss has been raising money for Heifer International through his charity fundraiser, Worldbuilders, since 2008. Patrick explains in this video how Heifer works:
The 2013 drive is nearly over, but there’s still six days to donate. And how could you not: Money is being raised for a good cause, and many passionate SF/F people have donated their time or goods to make the drive more interesting.
I’ve been following the stretch goals with interest since they’re such a hoot. My absolute favorites are Peter Orullian’s heavy metal version of “Ballad of Serenity” (by Joss Whedon) with lyrics retooled for Worldbuilders, and John Scalzi’s acoustic But Not Tonight (by Depeche Mode; a long-time favorite of mine, as it happens). Both are such great cover versions of great songs. (Insert a fan squee!)
So, if you have ever considered donating to Heifer, or want to have a chance at winning SF/F loot, or want to be a part of making the world a better place, now’s a good time.
Note: I wasn’t paid or perked to mention this; just passing along a good thing.
